- What is a vignette?
The vignette is a toll fee that is charged for using Austrian motorways and expressways.
It must be attached to the windshield in a clearly visible place, or you can purchase a **digital vignette** online that is linked to the license plate number.
- Where is the vignette valid?
On all motorways (A) and expressways (S) in Austria.
- Types of vignettes
10-day vignette
- Car: approx. €10.90
- Motorcycle: approx. €5.80
2-month vignette
- Car: approx. €29.00
- Motorcycle: approx. €14.50
Annual vignette
- Car: approx. €96.40
- Motorcycle: approx. €38.20
- Where can you get the vignette?
At petrol stations, rest stops, tobacconists or online as a digital vignette
- Penalties:
Anyone travelling without a valid vignette risks a fine of up to €240.
It is important to buy the vignette before getting on the motorway to avoid penalties.
- Exceptions:
On certain routes, such as the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, a **special toll** is charged in addition to the vignette.
Parking options in the Rauris Valley
Most of the accommodations in our valley offer free parking for their guests.
Guests can park for free in the town center (near the tennis courts), at the valley station of the Kreuzbodenbahn and in the parking areas of the Hochalmbahn.
When do you need winter tires or snow chains?
In Rauris Valley, as in all of Austria, winter tires are compulsory during the winter months. Here is the most important information:
Winter tire requirement
Period: Winter tires are compulsory from November 1st to April 15th. During this period, you must drive with winter tires in wintry road conditions (snow, mud or ice).
Regulations: Winter tires must have a tread depth of at least 4 mm and be marked "M+S" (mud and snow).
Snow chains
- Snow chains: Snow chains are required on certain routes in the Rauris Valley and surrounding areas when road conditions require them. This is especially the case on mountain roads and off the main roads. Even though they are not always mandatory, it is advisable to carry snow chains in your car.
- Information signs: There are signs to advise you when snow chains are required. Snow chains are particularly useful in heavy snowfall or on icy mountain roads to provide additional safety.
- 4WD vehicles: If you have a 4WD vehicle, this can be helpful, but again, winter tire and snow chain regulations apply if signs require them.
